WILDFLOWERS AND GYPSUM HILLS

Join us in early May for the Wildflowers Festival in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. Imagine touring fields of rolling flowers on a bright spring day, then stopping in a park for a catered BBQ lunch. We’ll get back onto the bus for more wildflowers and ending on Route 180 through the Gypsum Hills.

CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES 2: “A SECOND HELPING”

The SCC enjoyed this delightful comedy at the Crown Up Town Theatre. This sequel is set in the year 1969 and the world is changing. As folks protest the Vietnam war and women are demanding equal pay for equal work, in their small rural Minnesota community, the ladies of the church basement kitchen are dealing with changes of their own. Church Basement Ladies 2: A Second Helping takes us from serving the high school students at the Luther League Banquet to a church sponsored Missionary Night and the rise and fall of a Viking's Super Bowl Sunday. From the elderly matriarch of the kitchen to the young mom-to-be, these women find strength in one another. As always, you'll laugh until your side dish hurts with their hilarious antics and down-to-earth charm from within the church kitchen.

A CROWN UPTOWN CHRISTMAS

Silver Cougar Club members kicked off the holiday season by attending an all-new musical comedy revue at the Crown Uptown Dinner Theatre in Wichita on November 19th.  Everyone enjoyed this fun-filled show with dazzling dance numbers, sensational singing, colorful costumes and witty comedy.  Some of our members helped provide entertainment by joining the cast on stage for a skit about Rudolph the Red Neck Reindeer.

Events

Annual Membership Picnic-   Each year the college treats Silver Cougar Club members to a free picnic supper. Members are invited to bring guests who are interested in joining the club. This year the picnic was held on Wednesday, June 9 in the Barton Community College Student Union. Over 200 SCC members enjoyed a traditional picnic meal of fried chicken, potato salad, cole slaw and baked beans. The meal was topped off with apple cobbler. Since June is the month in which we celebrate our flag, we choose "Old Glory" to be the focus of the evening. The tables were decorated in a patriotic theme. Coleen opened the program with a poem honoring our flag as well as recognizing our veterans. Roger Cooper of Alton, Kansas added to the evening's theme by sharing his favorite patriotic songs and well as childhood memories of days gone by. Another summertime activity is the "Garage Sale", so we held one of items with SCC logo. We also held a chance drawing for several items most of which were donated by SCC members, the proceeds from both the garage sale and chance drawing will be deposited in the SCC Scholarship fund.  We netted $57.50 for the scholarship.  It was an enjoyable evening so mark your calendars for our next picnic which will be held on June 8, 2011. Watch for the May-June newsletter for more information. Remember RSVP's are required to attend and guests must be 55 years or older.
